The New York WOW

I'm just back from 7 days of classes at the New York Week of Workshops and ooooh what a time I had! This was a wonderful first time event and something I heartily reccommend to all. I taught 5 days, took classes 2 and laughed and learned more than I can tell you. The next event will be in August of 2009 - I'll have updates in my newsletter and at my home website, Skeelhaven.com. They incorporate classes of all mediums and skill levels so anyone in the Fig… Continue

Bird Brain

Last week I began hearing an odd noise at one of the French doors in my studio. I found a robin attacking the window. Peck marks covered each pane. It must be his reflection that he his fighting for territory becasue he also left lovely bird droppings all over the steps outside the door. I sat witht he camera to catch him. The first shot shows him attacking to the right of the window ornament, the second he is sitting on one of the steps he "blessed." You can see the lovely marks his little beak… Continue

Joy! Celebrating Life

I was in the midst of creating a series of 4 patterns and most of the way through the first doll when I got a message that the PCM Expo in Cincinnati was doing "Doll Alley" again and wanted me to teach a three hour doll class. So I dropped everything to design and create a new doll. I imagined her while not falling asleep Monday night, began her Tuesday morning, amazingly finished her Wednesday and sent the class info and photo off 15 minutes before the noon deadline then immediately began the p… Continue

Blizzard

Central Ohio is currently experiencing a blizzard - the first since 1978. Below is my mail box. Just for a point of reference, there are 4 numbers on the sign and the bottom of the sign is 18" off the ground. I sure am glad I work from home and stock a pantry!

New Patterns For Release!

I am happy to announce that somewhere in the middle of last night I sent not 1 but 2 new patterns to the printers via email. I should be able to pick them up next week and they will be available at Joggles, Dollmakers Journey and Cloth Doll Patterns on line shops soon. Originally created for Make & Takes at the PCM Original Creative Festival in Cincinnati last June, the first pattern, called Faerie and Lace Mini Case is a lovely little lined purse and can be worn as necklace-art as well. 5… Continue

Playing & Mrs. Blathersby's Orphanage

I've been playing with Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) and having fun, though not making much I am satisfied with. I've been buying loads of more supplies of products by Suz Weisberg and Tim Holtz, and spent part of yesterday watching TIm's second video. Learned about many mistakes I made and hope to correct next time I play. For now I am refinishing woodwork for our bedroom, back to natural wood. The good news there is that faeries prefer natural woodwork so maybe I'll see some lovelies in… Continue

Studio

I've spent time this last week trying to reorganize my studio. I group things into piles then sort through the piles to make more groups of the stuff. Eventually I hope to see the light at the end of this tunnel where I get to place said piles into appropriate drawers with labels, in turn clearing thefour 6 foot long tables and making space to be creative. I expect to spend most of tomorrow down there and make serious headway. My Muse, who is still on Sabbatical is expected any time. I believe s… Continue

Kiln

Yesterday and the day before I worked on moving back into my studio, now that I can do stairs again (slowly, but at least I can). I need to get rid of some things and the first item that I came across as big and bulky and something that I will never use is a Kiln. So, if you want to pick it up I will sell my kiln.

Happy as a Lark!

The good news is last night my son Shawn and 3 of his friends carried everything from my mini studio upstairs in the guestroom back to the real studio downstairs. There are 3 small boxes of books, all the UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) I never touched, and a ton of supplies. At least a half ton anyway. Now I understand what Mr. Visa was talking about re

I've enjoyed visiting your blog, today! You're getting me inspired to go down to my studio and reorganize. I don't have any good excuses, I'm just having a hard time motivating myself. I have such a beautiful space that it's a shame I am not making full use of it. Thanks for the inspiration...and for the pics of your beautiful work. :)

THE FAIRY SOCIETY's FEATURED GALLIRIES

Part of our mission at The Fairy Society echoes the feelings of a bygone age where courtesy was once respected – a place of refuge and support for deeply sensitive and wonderfully talented artists to safely share and explore new ventures – Showing by example that, even in the business world, good manners and kindness truly count and as a consequence bring much happiness. At the same time have it remain a safe, confidential and comfortable place for us to come and make magic together, At last, a place to feel safe and allow your own unique abilities to truly fly. A place where imagination knows no bounds. The Fairy Society will deservedly establish itself as a well respected and loved part of the Fairy World and we will all be the better for it.
